When I turn my steering wheel (2001 Jeep Cherokee) it makes a loud clicking.?

The front axle has two universal joints, one by each wheel, these see a lot of water and dirt and go bad easily. These u-joints provide power to the front wheels in four wheel drive and allow you to steer too. You should get these replaced.
